How to optimise your influence in the online and social media world

Plenty has been written about the importance of knowing your target market and finding your voice as a brand. These two elements are possibly the most important tools in your social media arsenal, and regardless of the ever-changing platforms available, they will always steer you in the right direction in the battle for online influence.
But knowing how best to optimise the platforms you have at your disposal is another important factor. Understanding when your tweet or Facebook post is going to have the maximum impact can really change the game. Which again comes back to knowing the target market.
It’s not just about knowing whether your target market prefers to engage on Twitter or Facebook that is going to help you connect better, it’s also knowing when they do.

Tick Yes Social Media Usage survey points the way
The recent Tick Yes survey revealed that over 50% of Australians access social media while at work. 33.8% of us use it while we’re in bed, which opens up the avenue of late-night or early-morning engagement when there are less brands competing for attention in the social sphere.
The question of timing in social media can be compared to the old brain-bending/philosophical riddle of ‘If a tree falls in the woods and there is no one there to hear it, does it really make a sound?’ The modern equivalent could (and should) be amended to this: ‘If a tweet drops online with no followers awake to notice it, did it ever really happen?’
Timing is everything in life. It can be the reason a relationship succeeds or fails, the reason we make life-altering decisions, and the basis of how our lives pan out. Likewise, in social media, timing is crucial to how we are perceived, and in fact if we are even perceived at all.
