When it comes to content creation, James Cameron is king – in filmic terms, at least. The man who has directed the two highest grossing movies of all time, Avatar and Titanic, as well as a host of iconic other films, including The Terminator and Aliens, Cameron clearly has an eye for creating footage people can’t wait to see.

So when he announces that he is about to explore, alone, the deepest spot on Earth – the 11km-deep Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean – and make a documentary while he’s down there, you know the result is going to be worth watching.

Cameron, arguably more than any other filmmaker, understands that great content works on a number of levels. Yes, it can be entertaining and engaging –but if you can add educational into the mix, you’ve got an unbeatable trifecta.
