Sex not only sells, it is revolutionising the publishing industry
We all know sex sells, but were really not trying to overdo things here. Nevertheless, hot (pun intended) on the heels of last weeks news that caveman porn has apparently been discovered in France come reports that ebooks are driving sales of mummy porn.
According to Tina Haveman, founder of eXtasy books, erotic novels for women have enjoyed a surge in popularity in the last few years. She attributes this to the new ebook readers that have become available.
Ebooks are cheaper than paperbacks, and easier to buy because of the convenience of the Internet, Ms Haveman told AAP. And people can read them without having to hide them from prying eyes.
A classic example of mummy porn that has gone mainstream is E.L. James 50 Shades of Grey, which has been topping the New York Times digital bestseller list for weeks. Publishers are, predictably, eager to cash in by creating digital erotic imprints that cater to this burgeoning market.
Which kind of makes you wonder what the lady sitting next to you on the bus is reading on her e-reader/tablet, doesnt it?
